Editorial Policy
How our information is researched, sourced, verified and corrected.
How products are researched
Product data comes from the Supplement Facts panel and other ingredients list as published by the manufacturer, recorded field by field: serving size, servings per container, each ingredient with amount, unit and form, other ingredients, dietary statements and any testing or certification statements. Each product page shows when it was last updated. Where a label doesn’t state something, we record it as “Not stated” rather than inferring it.
How comparisons are created
Form comparisons (such as glycinate vs citrate) are written from authoritative sources and structured so every comparison covers the same attributes. Product comparisons use the same label fields for both products. We do not declare universal winners; we explain differences and trade-offs.
How information is sourced
Health-related statements cite sources, prioritizing the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, the FDA, other government agencies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, position stands from professional organizations, and peer-reviewed studies. Evidence labels (“consistent”, “moderate”, “mixed”, “limited”, “insufficient”) summarize the overall body of research on a topic.
Manufacturer claims vs independently verified information
We separate four information types everywhere on the site:
- Manufacturer claims — statements made by the brand, including “third-party tested”.
- SuppScout calculations — math from label and price data, with formulas shown.
- Published research — cited studies and reviews.
- Third-party certifications — only shown as verified after we confirm the product in the certifier’s public listing, with the date checked.
How testing claims are verified
For programs such as USP Verified, NSF Certified, NSF Certified for Sport and Informed Sport, we search the certifier’s public listing for the exact product. If found, we record the listing URL and the date. If not found, the claim is shown as a manufacturer claim or “Not verified”. Certifications are re-checked periodically because listings change.
How affiliate relationships work
We may earn commissions from some merchant links. Commercial relationships do not determine factual product data, comparison content or evidence summaries. Sponsored placements, if any, are labeled “Sponsored”. See the affiliate disclosure.
Language we avoid
We don’t use words like “miracle”, “cure”, “guaranteed” or claims that supplements treat or prevent disease.
Corrections
If you spot an error, contact us with the page URL and the source. We review correction requests, update the page, and note material corrections with the updated date.
Demonstration data
The current product catalog uses fictional brands, prices and merchants to demonstrate the site. These are labeled “Demo” wherever they appear and are excluded from search engine indexing.
